At the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine our diversity statement, policy and One Table initiative all highlight respect and understanding for everyone. To foster inclusiveness for the LGBTQIA+ community and create a network of allies, we’ve established a group of faculty and staff who are SAFE ZONE trained.
Being SAFE ZONE trained means an individual has completed a specific curriculum and wants to communicate to others that they are open to talking about and being supportive of LGBTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual) individuals and identities.
SAFE ZONES have become prevalent on college campuses around the world and the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) developed Ally curriculum for member institutions.
